reports

How many visitors came, and where they came from.

Public Lands Log turns reviewed guest-book entries, QR check-ins and kiosk sign-ins into monthly counts by site, a map of visitors' hometowns, and exports shaped for the forms your funders send you. Every report says where each number came from.

counts and map

Every number says where it came from.

Counts break down by month, by site and by source: guest-book entries, QR check-ins and kiosk sign-ins each keep their own number. Trail counter detections are always reported separately and never added to visitor sign-ins.

The origin map shows where visitors came from, by state and country, using the hometowns they wrote or typed. Paper entries count only after your staff have checked them against the page.

the monthly report

A report you can hand to your board.

A monthly report, ready to download and share as a PDF. It covers your whole organization, lists each site on its own line, says how many pages were reviewed, and never includes visitor names or photos of your pages.

funder exports

The forms funders send you, filled in from your counts.

Pick a date range and a site, or your whole organization, and download a CSV file. Each export ends with a plain note on how its numbers were made.

Washington lodging tax (JLARC)

Overall attendance, visitors who traveled 50 miles or more, and visitors from out of state or out of the country, each with its counting method. Paid and unpaid overnight stays and paid lodging nights come from the "Staying overnight?" answers.

Texas hotel occupancy tax post-event report

Actual attendance and how it was measured, out-of-state, in-state 50+ mile and local attendees, and the list of attendee ZIP codes some cities ask for. Room nights come from the "Staying overnight?" answers.

Heritage area partner attendance

Yearly attendance with the count method, local and non-local visitors, and a row for each site in your organization.

Monthly visitor counts

Month by site, with guest-book entries, QR check-ins and kiosk sign-ins in their own columns and trail counter totals kept separate.

honest numbers

What the numbers are, and what they are not.

Sign-ins, not every visitor

Reports count the people who signed your book, checked in with a QR code or used your kiosk. People who visited without signing in are not counted, and every report says so.

Estimates are labeled

Overnight answers are counted as given, with how many visitors answered, and never scaled up. Where an export estimates a share for everyone who signed in, that row says it is an estimate.

On-site evidence

Phone-location services such as Placer.ai, Datafy and Zartico estimate visits from phone data. These are the people who were actually at your site, which also makes them a way to check those estimates.

Distances are straight-line. "50 miles or more" is measured from the hometown's ZIP code, town or state to your site, so road miles are usually longer.
